Vilnius Mayor A. Zuokas destroys illegal gypsy encampment

On Monday, three illegal encampment buildings were demolished. In two years the mayor of Vilnius are planning to implement gypsy‘s eviction program.

Vilnius City Municipality informs, that gypsies as well as all the residents of Vilnius, have the same legal rules. Last year it received social assistance to nearly 625 thousand LTL, virtually all children gets free meals at school, camp residents are provided with solid fuel, furthermore the municipality pays for waste disposal.

Vilnius Mayor A. Zuokas says that gypsy encampment is a very big wound of a city and it should be eliminated. They are not only making and spreding the drugs, but also are engaged in illegal activities. Nevertheless, they ignore the law and builds their houses without permission. Home owners will be able to get the social apartments.
